Past Progressive Lab

TCR English Lab · 20 interactive exercises · 10 questions each

Practice actions in progress at a particular time in the past.

HOW TO COMPLETE THE EXERCISES

Type ONLY the missing verb phrase in the blank. Do NOT type the whole sentence.

1. Read the complete sentence carefully.

2. Use the verb clue in parentheses.

3. Remember: the Past Progressive uses was/were + verb-ing.

4. In questions, use the correct question word order.

5. In negative sentences, include not or the correct contraction.

6. Click Check Answers to see your score and feedback.

Example: At 8 p.m., I ______ dinner. (cook)
Correct entry: was cooking — not the whole sentence.

Some verbs are irregular in the Simple Past, but the Past Progressive still uses the -ing form: go → was going, not “was went.”
