Gram told me the story that Joni saw this vase in the (shop) and she really liked it. So they bought it and they got back to Joni’s cottage and they came in; it was this cool gray morning and Gram said to me that he said to her, you know what, it is kind a chilly, I'll light a and you put some flowers in the vase we bought. We ran to the , we wrote for an hour and we had "Our House" done, words and music in an hour. Written right in Laurel canyon.
Michael Walker: Hi I am Michael Walker, I am the author or Laurel Canyon. The inside of rock and roll legendary neigborhood.

Male: My book covers Laurel Canyon essentially from 1965 to 1981. Laurel Canyon Boulevard connects two sides of Los Angeles. The list of people that lived here was astonishing, it was: Gram Nash and Joni Mitchel lived together in a cabin on Look Up Mountain. 2401 Laurel Canyon Boulevard this is the site of Frank Zappa's (it) was called the log . It was all all log cabin, it was built in the early 1900’s. Frank Zappa and his wife Gail and their brand new Moon Unit moved in here in 1968. You are in the middle of one of the busiest cities in the world, but there is this kind of weird pastoral nether land. Here we have a lemon tree. One of the reasons they came here, why some many musicians moved here was because it was to live here. This is where the GTO’s were born, the girls lived together outrageously right inside the log cabin. People literally lived in Canyon or they lived with people that lived in Laurel Canyon. During the day and then at night everyone would gather down on the strip. On and on this goes up and up... Every musician in town, Jimmy Hendricks, Jeff Back, Rod Stewart, every musician, who was anybody who came into town, ended up coming to visit Frank Zappa in the incredible little scene here. And again you can imagine what this must have been like on a good night in 1968. The log cabin was pretty much over there; it burned on Halloween night in . You know, culture changing events and big personalities happened in Laurel Canyon. Mamma Cass Elliot's house, up on Wilson Drive on the top of the canyon, was sort of like the salon of all the guys in the canyon that would come up there and hang out. Crosby Still and Nash had their songs done for the first in her living room.

PART 2

Well, this is the Laurel Canyon Country Store, and this is sort of like the...as one guy described it is the lobby of the Laurel Canyon hotel. Mick was in one time; he was missing having his delicacies and his Cadburry bars and David Bowie came in later and had made the same complaint. So the owners made this little aisle which is all stuff from the British Empire from Australia for the homesick rock and rollers. They have a great wine selection at the canyon store, and Tommy, the owner, has commissioned his own line of wine. So there would be canyon country store Merlots and Cabernets and I believe there is a Champagne coming up with this so you could literally get a taste of Laurel Canyon. Pace is open for dinner, it is a fun thing for people if you know, LA is such a hard place to navigate. A lot of people end up staying in Holly..on the Sunset Strip. This is a great diversion to come up here and you can have . Pace is Italian for P-A-C-E. In the 60’s, the drugs that the musicians used were sharable. It was acid and Peyote and Marijuana; cocaine came in people tended to go by themselves to do it. There are some people started putting up walls around themselves and the cohesiveness of the canyon began to come apart. Sunday afternoon, and September is the prime of fire seasons, so on a really hot witchy day, September of 1979, this hillside caught fire all along the top of Laurel Canyon on Grand View Drive and Cole Crest and it 20 or 30 houses. The wonderland murders which also happened in Laurel Canyon. So, you have this arc from this kind of the hope and peace and love underpinnings of the early to the mid 60's to the early 80s when it had turned n' kind of evolved into cocaine and very dangerous people.
